The One Success Habit (You Can’t Do Without) by Dr. Fred Ray Lybrand

The One Success Habit You Cant Do Without by Dr. Fred Ray LybrandThis book has a title designed to reel in its target audience (anyone wanting to succeed). Does it deliver on its promise? Yes. You will come away from reading this book with an understanding of how to act upon your goals and better manage your schedule. If you’re not completing everything you plan to do each day, this book is for you.

Dr. Lybrand’s advice borders on the simplistic, but that is its charm. We need uncomplicated guidance to help us navigate in a complex world. Highlights from the book that particularly captured my attention were the concept of buffer days and Edison days.

Buffer days are to be set aside for the purpose of cleaning up tasks (Dr. Lybrand calls them messes) that accumulate while we work on more pressing matters. Most people ignore tasks of this sort until they become overwhelming. A better way is to regularly schedule buffer days to take care of them. This removes stress and increases productivity on other days.

Thomas Edison, who once remarked that he was able to accomplish so much because of his ability to maintain a single focus, is the inspiration for Edison days. Dr. Lybrand suggests planning single-focus days once in a while to power through some of your goals. A writer on deadline can attest to the effectiveness of this method.

The One Success Habit (You Can’t Do Without) by Dr. Fred Ray Lybrand is well worth reading and applying.

Being unabashedly multi-genre makes me into what some might term a reluctant rebel, but I prefer to think of myself as a storyteller.
